First consultation with the orthodontist:
Children can come for a status check already at the age of 7-8. By this age, the improper growing directions of the mandible, bad habits or the negative effects of breathing through the mouth will have shown, and by changing or stopping them, a lengthy orthodontic treatment at later age can be prevented. The age between 11 and 15 is the most suitable for an orthodontic treatment.
Serious complications can be avoided if treatment takes place during childhood.
Such mandibular-orthopaedic treatments are possible during childhood that could not work in adulthood. Underdeveloped mandibles or lack of tone of muscles around the mouth can be treated but only before puberty or during its initial phase.
Appliances used to treat tongue thrust or lip incompetence when swallowing are the most efficient during this phase, too. It is only at this age when constricted dental arch can be expanded. Prolonged orthodontic treatments at later age can be avoided if treatment takes place in childhood.
If you start the orthodontic treatment in childhood, not only will it result in a beautiful smile, but in an ideal face shape too.
